When looking back at the tragic deaths that took place during HARD Summer 2015, it seems like one of the contributing factors was the amount of people in attendance. In fact, the capacity for HARD’s Halloween event, Day of the Dead, has been limited to 40,000 people, which is a significant drop off from the summer’s number at 65,000. Clearly, overcrowding is a safety concern that needs to be addressed all over the world, as a young woman recently lost her life during a packed Skrillex show in India.
According to India.com, 23-year-old Aanchal Arora collapsed at some point during the October 11th concert and was subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead on arrival. It was later revealed that she was ‘suffocated to death’, which is something we don’t always see when it comes to deaths at dance music events. Arora’s friend was also injured and is currently in the Intensive Care Unit. According to Dr. Deepak Mathur, who conducted the autopsy:
“It is a case of vasovagal attack. This is a disorder that causes a rapid drop in heart rate and blood pressure, resulting in decreased blood flow to the brain and fainting. Vasovagal attack is the most common cause for fainting. The disorder is also referred to as neurocardiogenic syncope. This happens due to suffocation.”
Police have confirmed that overcrowding was an issue at this particular event. Authorities were informed that there would be 8,000 people at the show, but according to report, at least 2,000 more people showed up to see Skrillex. A case has been registered against the organizer.
