Grandtheft & Sleepy Tom – Hold On

Grandtheft has become a household name for dance music fans around the world, as he has released some top notch originals and remixes that have hit the radio, our playlists, and club sets around the world. He’s teamed up with Mad Decent head honcho, Diplo, to convert pop hits ‘Sweet Nothing‘ from Calvin Harris & Florence Welch and ‘BBHMM‘ by Rihanna into trap heavy-hitters. He didn’t stop there, as Grandtheft used the platform he garnered by working with Diplo and remixed a few on his own, and “trapified” Alesso‘s ‘Heroes‘ & Dillon Francis‘s ‘When We Were Young‘ among others.

Now Grandtheft is preparing to release his first full length solo project with his EP, Quit This City. The EP is due out some time this fall but ahead of the EP release, Grandtheft has revealed a collaboration with Sleepy Tom: ‘Hold On‘.

“This past January, [Sleepy Tom] came to my Toronto studio with an idea that would become ‘Hold On,’ ” the producer tells Billboard. “We built it out with some of my analog synths…Huge Jupiter 6 chords and some Moog bassline business.” – Grandtheft

Hold On‘ features some incredible sample use, including a catchy vocal sample of a woman singing “I just kept holding on” throughout the entirety of the synth driven melody; the cherry on top comes in the form of a goosebump inducing, bass thumping drop. This tune stands with likes of genre-defying Flume or What So Not, as there is no distinct boundary you can place this music in. Check it out above, and grab it at the link provided.
