Why Oliver Heldens is Set for a Massive 2015

Just like any other genre, dance music has been rapidly evolving since it’s explosion in the US – circa 2011. Every year, a new genre begins a trend train that fans jump on to bring it to the mainstream. This year could be the start of the deep house train. A young Dutch producer by the name of Oliver Heldens, as many fans already know, lead the movement along with other genre pioneers to crossover deep and future house to the radio.

Heldens originally surfaced onto the scene when he mysteriously released his funky original, “Gecko,” on Tiesto’s Musical Freedom imprint. Many people were confused with this release as Musical Freedom was home to mainly progressive house hits. But, fans immediately fell in love with the groovy track and were curious as to who this Oliver Heldens was. As the year progressed, Oliver Heldens gained the attention of the crowds with his signature style and rapidly rose into the spotlight.

In July, Heldens rocked the Belgium crowds at Tomorrowland with his electrifying set, showcasing unreleased tracks alongside tracks that inspired his sound. Fast forward two months and the 19-year-old superstar makes a monstrous upgrade for Tomorrowland’s sister festival, TomorrowWorld. That Sunday, Heldens took the main stage as one of very few deep house acts to do so. This moment was written in the history books as deep house artists usually had more underground stages to share their music with avid fans.

After his TomorrowWorld debut, nothing could stop the young producer. He caught the attention of dance music’s most influential producers, including fellow countryman Sander van Doorn. Usually known for his progressive sound, van Doorn teamed up with Heldens to formulate a tech/deep house hybrid track, titled “This.” Exhibiting van Doorn and Heldens’ mulitple talents, the tech house smash made one thing clear: Oliver Heldens was here to stay.

Finally, if stamps of approval by Tiësto and Sander van Doorn weren’t enough, Heldens’ latest fiery single “Last All Night (Koala)” debuted on the UK charts at #2. Looking back, very few artists can say that they had such a meteoric rise like Oliver Heldens in just one year. Fans can only speculate what is to come in 2015 for the Dutch star, and he has hinted at a couple surprises to come.

For 2015, details have been sparse on the next steps for Oliver Heldens’ future house takeover, but he has hinted at future collaborations with TiëstoAlong with this, fans attending major festivals can anticipate to add Oliver Heldens to their schedules. Despite still being a teenager, Oliver Heldens certainly has a gift for producing and will continue to change the landscape in the coming year.
