Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Year in Review: 2014 was the Year of Avicii

dance/electronic"

It may not have been the easiest year of Avicii‘s life – his performing schedule was marred by health concerns, missed appearances and a subsequent retreat from touring – but he still came out on top.  According to Billboard’s Year in Dance/Electronic 2014, 25-year-old Avicii was the Top Dance/Electronic Artist, placing ahead of Calvin Harris (2), Lil Jon (3), DJ Snake (4) and Zedd (5).  His debut studio album, True, ended up #3 on the Top Dance/Electronic Albums for the year.  Here’s how the Swedish superstar fared in the retrospective roundup of Billboard’s charts, by the numbers:

5 – The number of tracks on 2014’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs recap
2 – The number of tracks in the year-end top 10 (“Wake Me Up” and “Hey Brother”)
15 – The number of weeks “Wake Me Up” topped the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart in 2014
26 – The total number of weeks “Wake Me Up” topped the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart over the course of 2013 and 2014.  26 weeks = half the year!
2 – Where “Wake Me Up” landed on the year-end recap (second only after the DJ Snake & Lil Jon phenomenon “Turn Down For What”)
