DJ Matthew Dear Makes A Track Out Of Samples From GE Machines

Have you heard that latest track from…General Electric? We’re not kidding. DJ Matthew Dear partnered with GE & one of their acoustic engineers to sample thousands of machines for a completely custom new work called “Drop Science.” The track demonstrates the versatility of electronic music, where Dear is able to take acoustic signatures from machines including airplane engines, power turbines and medical equipment, and chop & slice them into an original piece of music. While the video is clearly a marketing effort from the multinational corporation, it’s a really clever idea and a fascinating process to watch. It just goes to show that with enough patience and creativity, awesome music can come from just about anywhere. Also, who knew GE had a SoundCloud page? You learn something new every day.
