Underground-Mau5? Deadmau5 Techno Alias Releases New Tracks

Anyone recall the last SXSW closing party? Two skinny Canadian dudes, some minimal tables, and some minimal Techno beats? We certainly do. That party was a back-to-back show put on by none other than Richie Hawtin and Deadmau5, and it lead to quite a few people asking for a collab.  It’s been almost a year since the 2013 SXSW and it would appear the two have kept in touch.

The track in question is a matured version of an unreleased deadmau5 track “Sunspot”. Sunspot (White Space Conflict) is out on Plus 8 Records under the alias testpilot with a remix by Pig&Dan. Nothing about this track has hit the deadmau5 Live site, except for some investigating by Less Than 3 in the chat room.

They haven’t made it too terribly difficult to really tell it’s the mau5 man. Hawtin wrote this on the Soundcloud upload: “It’s been nearly two years since the last PLUS 8 record, but it seemed fitting that this record in particular, made by another skinny white kid, became part of the label’s collection and history.”

It’ll be interesting to see if Deadmau5 releases any other tracks under the “…bunch” of aliases he’s got up his sleeve. For now we’ll have to groove to this new experiment.
